Advertising: Cities Will Only Survive If Completely Covered In Ads
There are roughly three ways to think of public space: (1) it should be unadorned, but beautiful, (2) it may be adorned, but only by limited commercial speech, or (3) Blade Runner.
In Michigan, and some other places, it seems we’re moving towards number 3.
For pure capitalists like myself, this is just the market adjusting. If people find they don’t like the aesthetic cost of this sort of activity, they’ll pay an economic cost to avoid it. But how long will we have to wait to arrive at equillibrium?
